About

The mission of the Institute for Language Education in Transcultural Context (ILETC), a research and resource center for language education, is to strengthen and promote the equitable teaching and learning of languages at CUNY in the context of New York City’s multilingual communities. As a research center, ILETC supports innovative projects by language scholars and instructors in the fields of language pedagogy, second language acquisition theory, and translingual and transcultural communication. As a resource center, ILETC is committed to collaboration with language programs and faculty at CUNY to cultivate opportunities for professional development and to promote the creation and dissemination of effective materials for improving the outcomes of language education.

ILETC was founded in 2012 thanks to support from the Graduate Center, Hunter College, Queens College, the College of Staten Island, and CUNY Central. ILETC is currently supported by funding from the Graduate Center as well as external grants.

We want to hear from you! If you have any ideas or initiatives related to language education on your mind, please feel free to contact us via email at ILETC@gc.cuny.edu to set up an appointment.
