ACTFL & Community-College-Language Forum 2016

The LCCN team was excited to attend and present at ACTFL 2015 in San Diego, where we enjoyed a number of interesting conversations about community college language education.

In that vein, we’re happy to announce that CILC will host the first Community-College-Language Forum on May 6, 2016 at the Borough of Manhattan Community College. This one-day event will include invited talks from guest speakers as well as presentations of research and work in the field from instructors and administrators at community colleges, four-year colleges, and other educational institutions.

Our invited speakers are Terrence Wiley, the president of the Center for Applied Linguistics in Washington, DC, Sharon Fechter, the Intermin Dean of Humanities at Montgomery College and professor of Spanish, as well as as the former chair of the department of World Languages and Philosophy, and Olivia Yañez, a professor of Spanish at the College of Lake County.

Topics include:

  • articulation agreements between community colleges and four-year colleges
  • assessment and alignment with institutional/national/international standard
  • internships and externships
  • community- and service-based language learning
  • language for specific purposes
  • program design
  • curriculum design pedagogical material

If you’d like to register to attend, you can do so here.  The event is free and open to the public, though registration is required so we can anticipate attendance.

And, if you’d like to present, please submit your proposal here by January 30, 2016.

We hope to see you there!
